David Houston Buchanan, age 62, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Memorial services will be held Saturday February 17, 2018 at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Tucker. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ward’s Funeral Home in Gainesville. Flowers are welcome. Contributions may be made to Creative Community Services.

He was born on May 24, 1955 in Greenville, KY to Albert and Elizabeth (Gentry) Buchanan. He was an alumnus of Georgia Southern University and University of Georgia School of Law. David will be remembered most for his devotion to his family and his unbeatable sense of humor. He was a true partner to his wife, Sally, and was an indispensable part of her work with therapeutic foster children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Professionally, David was an attorney who truly put his heart into his work. He loved his clients and treated them as family.  As a church youth group leader, along with his wife, David served the homeless, built grain storage facilities in a small Honduran village, built a school in El Salvador and shared his faith in action with all of the youth he led. He was always up for a new adventure whether it was sky diving, rock sliding, or jumping off of waterfalls. As a father and grandfather, David always had time for laughter, fishing, deep conversations and digging in the dirt. David had an unstoppable spirit and was forever young at heart.

David will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 41 years, Sally, and his daughters, Heather, and Courtney (Bobby).  David will be forever remembered by his three grandchildren, Landon, Connor, and Olivia and by his sisters Susan (Bill) Ervin and Desda (Curtis) Townsend. David will always remain in the hearts of his in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.

All of your friends and colleagues at the Family Focused Treatment Association are heart broken. David was part of the FFTA family for many, many years and we loved having him with us as FFTA traveled the country for conferences and board meetings. We enjoyed sharing so many laughs and great food with him. We are all blessed to have witnessed his kindness, sense of humor, love for his family, and livelong support of his wife and her work to improve the lives of children, youth and adults. David was the first to help someone and the last to take credit. We are here for your family as a source of support and strength...always.
